Bird Netting for Fruit Trees

Fruit orchards often find themselves in a bird dilemma. They have thousands of trees to grow fruit in, but unless they find a way to protect them, birds will eat their fruit before they can pick it. What can you do?

There are a few options for protecting your trees from birds.

Bird netting is the first option. Bird netting goes around trees and prevents birds from being able to eat their fruits. Bird netting comes in various mesh sizes to prevent different types of birds from eating fruit trees. The mesh size you use will depend on the species of bird you are trying to deter.

Bird netting is often the best option for fruit orchards and fruit trees. It excludes birds with a high rate of effectiveness and if installed properly, will last over various weather conditions, and can be removed to harvest the fruit.

The types of bird netting for fruit trees are:

1) High-density polyethylene (HDPE) bird netting- This is a netting that is effective against all types of birds. It is knotted, making it difficult for birds to get their beaks through the netting, and is treated with UV inhibitors to prolong its life.

2) Polypropylene bird netting- This netting is less dense than HDPE bird netting but is still effective against all types of birds. It is not UV treated, so it will only last a couple of years outdoors.

3) Stainless steel bird netting- This type of bird netting is the most expensive, but also the most effective. It is made of stainless-steel wire and is completely resistant to rust. It will last for many years outdoors.

No matter what type of bird netting you choose, be sure to install it properly. The netting should be stretched tight and secured to the ground with stakes or weights. If it isn't installed correctly, the birds will simply fly around it.

Bird netting is a great way to protect your fruit trees from birds. It is effective against all types of birds, is durable, and can be installed correctly to prevent the birds from getting around it. Protect your fruit trees with bird netting today!

Methyl anthranilate is another option for bird control for fruit trees. This is a chemical agent used in grape flavoring that birds like starlings and crows avoid. Unlike other pesticides, however, methyl anthranilate does not harm the birds. They simply dislike the taste and smell and will find somewhere else to look for food.

Noise devices are also an option for fruit orchards and protecting fruit trees. Sonic noise machines produce the sounds of predator calls and species distress cries. This warns birds to stay away from the crops. Ultrasonic noise machines produce high-frequency pitches that disturb birds. Birds dislike the sound and will stay away.
