Bird Control Services
for The State of Hawaii

Hawaii Bird Control Experts

Hawaii became the 50th U.S. state on August 21, 1959. Hawaii lies 2,397 miles from California, the closest mainland state. Hawaii is the southernmost state, and while it may seem like only the 8 main islands make up the state, it actually contains 137 islands, encompassing over 64 hundred square miles of land area. It is also considered the nations endangered species capitol, not surprising considering these islands house practically every geological formation, terrain, and climate found on earth.

A relative to Canada Geese, that once they reached the Hawaiian Islands evolved into a nonaquatic and non-migratory species with features as unique as having webbed feet designed to walk on rough lava. This species is only found on the Hawaiian Islands, nowhere else in the world.

The Hawaii State Bird is the The Hawaiian Goose a.k.a. Nene, a.k.a. Branta sandvicensis

Although it is the most isolated population center in the world, and has no snakes, rabies, or daylight savings, it unfortunately does house an unmanageable quantity of pigeons, establishing themselves so strongly since their introduction that they now cause health and sanitation issues wherever they go. There are steep fines and repercussions to anyone seen feeding this pest bird, as they can thrive off of minimal resources. Since their introduction, which is believed to be in 1788 from a Chinese cargo ship full of wild turkeys and pigeons, to the year 1825, they went from only a few dozen to being called “abundant” on Honolulu. From there they spread to other islands and are now a consistent problem on almost all populated islands.

What makes this pest bird infestation worse is that seagulls, another bird that is a large competitor of pigeons in other areas of the country, are not a resident of these islands. Where you would see seagulls frequenting beaches and tropical areas elsewhere, only pigeons are found in Hawaii. Attempts have been made to rid the islands of this invasive species, but these pest birds are here to stay.

Why Bird Control Is Necessary

If we don't take care of these creatures early, the problem could get worse over time. For example, bird droppings can get into air conditioning units with unfortunate consequences such as illness and corrosion weakening buildings--all leading to a greater risk for fires from poor building material quality that leaves unchecked.

It is always a good idea to find out about the many different solutions available for controlling bird problems, but most of the options are expensive or time-consuming. In addition, you may be exposing yourself and others in your home to diseases that birds leave behind in their droppings. AviAway Bird Control Services offer an easy way to keep pesky birds away from your property without harming them or endangering any humans nearby! You can also practice the prevention techniques outlined below which will increase the chances of never having a problem with unwanted visitors on your property again!

Birds are smart creatures that will quickly learn to stay out of the way when humans and predators are in close range, but they also know where there is a space devoid of human contact. When this happens, birds typically stick around and do anything to stay put. Their reproductive rates also make them more than willing to take over any abandoned building or warehouse in a matter of a couple of months if you let them. If your bird problem is something that needs to be addressed immediately- give us a call today!

Common Effects of Pest Bird Infestations

  • Bird droppings can cause the breakout of several diseases and the multiplication of parasites like mealworms, chicken mites, and even bed bugs.

  • Large populations of birds can be noisy, especially at night when they are right on your roof.

  • Nests can clog your drains and that will lead to a big problem with water drainage.

  • Food contamination is highly likely if they are around food processing outfits or eateries.

  • Pest bird presence can lead to penalties from public health officers.

  • Bird droppings on sidewalks can result in slips when they are mistakenly stepped upon.

  • Bird droppings can stain, corrode, and cause other damages to the building materials.

Avoid Developing Bird Infestations Around Your Home or Building

  • Clean your gutters and eliminate other forms of standing water in your areas. Availability of water to drink can attract them.

  • Avoid all kinds of projections like ledges around your wall. Birds can easily roost on them.

  • Trim all trees and prune them very regularly. The more leaves they have the more they can provide shelter for birds.

  • Cover all trash cans, as they can attract not only pest birds like pigeons but other unwanted wildlife as well.

  • Clean all outdoor surroundings consistently. If your pet mistakenly upsets your trash can, quickly clean it up as some of the food remnants can attract birds, and once they know where the food is, they stay there.

  • Avoid feeding pest birds at all costs, as it is a form of encouragement for them to stay even longer. This includes bird feeders that arent weight controlled.

  • Seal all openings through which small birds can enter your building.

  • Ensure all vent, loft, and eave openings are permanently blocked.

  • Install door strips on any exterior doors, to prevent the entrance of all birds.
